To honor his commitment to the youth and families in the community, the Bayview Hunters Point YMCA will honor Golden State Warriors center Festus Ezeli with the Bayview YMCA Ambassador award, the team announced today. Ezeli receives this recognition for his involvement and impact he has made to the Bayview YMCA since joining the Warriors in 2012. Ezeli will be honored at the Bayview Hunters Point YMCA Appreciation awards ceremony tonight, Thursday, February 13 from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. (1601 Lane Street, San Francisco CA 94124).
"I would like to thank Bayview Hunters Point YMCA Executive Director Gina Fromer, Board Chair Russell Jones and the Bayview Hunters Point community for honoring me with the Bayview YMCA Ambassador Award," said Ezeli. "During my time with the Warriors I have developed a strong relationship and connection with the community members of Bayview Hunters Point, and I look forward to future involvement with the Bayview Hunters Point YMCA to continue to make a difference in the lives of their youth."
Ezeli has dedicated his time and resources to help the youth at the Bayview YMCA including participating in the 2013 Bowlathon, where Ezeli and the Bayview Hunters Point YMCA helped raise $90,000 to support various youth and teen programs the YMCA offers to over 2,000 community members. In addition, on November 25, 2013, as part of the Warriors Plays for the Holidays community outreach initiative, Ezeli hosted a Thanksgiving dinner for over 50 local families of the Bayview/Hunters Points YMCA. Transforming the gym into a festive dining hall, Ezeli and his guests feasted on a chef-prepared holiday meal and spent time together sharing stories about what they are thankful for during holiday season. After the meal, each family received a Warriors Season-of-Giving gift bag and a frozen turkey provided by Festus to share with their families on Thanksgiving Day. Ezeli is also providing funds for the YMCA's Jr. Warriors League by purchasing basketball uniforms for the 150 students and coaches throughout the program
