Utah Jazz Encourages Fans to Start the New Year with a Healthy Lifestyle
League-wide NBA FIT Live Healthy Week Runs Jan. 3-10
SALT LAKE CITY (January 2, 2014) – The Utah Jazz are teaming up with Automated Business Products, Fresh Market, ICON Health & Fitness and Shoe Carnival Jan. 3-10 to host a variety of health and wellness events and promotions as part of the league-wide NBA FIT Live Healthy Week. In an effort to raise additional awareness about the importance of staying active, Jazz players will also wear special NBA FIT shooting shirts during home and away games throughout the week.
On Monday, Jan. 6, the team will tip off a 10-part series of Jazz Fit clinics at local schools. Throughout the week, Jazz players, including Trey Burke, Alec Burks, Ian Clark, Enes Kanter, John Lucas III and Marvin Williams, will host clinics for approximately 160 students at Bryant, Glendale and Northwest middle schools. With assists from the Jazz player development staff, Jazz Bear, America First Jazz Dancers and the Jazz Fit Stunt Team, players will engage the boys and girls in a variety of activities to get them excited about fitness and encourage them to live a healthy lifestyle.
“As a professional athlete, I know how important it is to take care of your body through nutrition and exercise,” said Jazz guard Trey Burke. “I’m looking forward to spending time with local students and showing them that living a healthy lifestyle is not only good for you, but can also be fun.”
To further motivate the students to achieve their health and wellness goals, Jazz personnel will also distribute gym bags containing an assortment of Jazz Fit tools, including pedometers, water bottles and more.
On Friday, Jan. 10, the Jazz will close out NBA FIT Live Healthy Week with a special Jazz Fit Night during their home game against the Cleveland Cavaliers. The evening will feature a water bottle giveaway to 10,000 fans, a performance by the Jazz Fit Stunt Team and a variety of other fitness-focused activities and promotions.
During NBA FIT Live Healthy Week, all NBA and NBA Development League teams and players are joining community members and partners in a collective effort to highlight the importance of living an active, healthy lifestyle. In conjunction with this annual initiative, the NBA is also launching a line of NBA FIT Food featuring oranges with NBA FIT-branded stickers and bags available in Walmart stores across the country.
