While the Oklahoma City Thunder are near the top of the NBA in almost every offensive category, their defensive efforts are paying off, too.

The Thunder aim for a seventh consecutive home victory Friday night as they face the woeful Orlando Magic.

With Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook leading the way, Oklahoma City (48-17) is second in the league in scoring with 106.5 points per game. The Thunder, though, also have proven to be a force on the defensive end, posting a 42.8 opponent field-goal percentage to rank second in the NBA.

Winners of nine of 11, the Thunder have surrendered an average of 91.8 points over their last five games - 5.2 less than their season mark.

They've been particularly stingy at home recently, as the last five opponents to visit Oklahoma City have averaged 83.4 points on 35.3 percent shooting. All of the Thunder's last 14 home games have been double-digit victories except for a Feb. 14 loss to league-best Miami.

Their defensive prowess was on full display Wednesday in a 110-87 home victory over Utah. The Thunder, who shot 53.6 percent and limited the Jazz to 35.0, scored 25 points off 20 turnovers and held a 48-35 rebounding edge.

"We did a good job of making plays and executing," said coach Scott Brooks, whose team has outscored opponents by an average of 23.8 points during its six-game home winning streak. "Our defense really won the game."

Oklahoma City improved to 36-1 when limiting opponents to 98 points or fewer and 35-0 when holding them below 43.5 percent from the field.

Brooks credited Kendrick Perkins with the Thunder's solid play on the defensive end. Though the veteran big man went scoreless with three rebounds Wednesday, Oklahoma City had a plus-25 scoring margin when he was on the floor - tops on the team. Perkins helped hold Utah leading scorer Al Jefferson to eight points on 4-of-13 shooting.

"I think if you had to give a game ball you would certainly give one to (Perkins)," Brooks said. "He was a big impact throughout the game not only on his man but anchoring our defense. ... He's been doing it all year. He takes pride in his individual defense and our team defense."

The Thunder appear primed for another good night defensively, facing a Magic team which is among the league's worst at 94.2 points per game. They've scored more than 100 just five times in their last 22.

Oklahoma City is facing Orlando (18-47) for the first time since sweeping last season's two games as Durant averaged 34.0 points. While the Magic stayed close in both contests thanks to significant contributions from Dwight Howard, they could have a hard time keeping up Friday.

Orlando is coming off an emotional 106-97 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday, dropping to an NBA-worst 6-34 since Dec. 21. Jameer Nelson scored 21 points and Tobias Harris added 17 and a career-high 15 rebounds, but the Magic had no answer for Howard, who posted a season-high 39 points and 16 boards in his return to Orlando.

"We competed and gave everything that we had, but unfortunately we came up short," Nelson told the team's official website. "This was something we needed, especially our young guys going through this atmosphere."

Harris has averaged 15.6 points and 7.4 rebounds in 10 games since coming over from Milwaukee prior to the trade deadline.

The Thunder and Magic meet again next Friday in Orlando.

Durant, Westbrook lead Thunder past Magic, 117-104

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Despite the disparity in their records, the Oklahoma City Thunder weren't taking the struggling Orlando Magic lightly.

Kevin Durant scored 26 points and Russell Westbrook added 23 to help the Thunder keep up their dominant play at home with a 117-104 victory over the Magic on Friday night.

Oklahoma City led by 27 in the second quarter and 22 in the third, but had to put its starters back on the floor midway through the fourth after Orlando pulled within four.

The Thunder held the Magic scoreless over the final 2 1/2 minutes and closed with an 8-0 run to improve to 30-4 at home this season.

"We knew going into this game Orlando would play hard and they've been doing that all year," Thunder coach Scott Brooks said. "They are a team that is going to be good in the future very quickly. Our focus was inconsistent throughout the game. We pride ourselves in being more focused in every game and every possession and it wasn't the case tonight."

The focus was there in the first half.

The Thunder scored a season-high 73 points in the first two quarters, shooting 64 percent from the floor and converting 18 of 22 free throws to lead by 17 at the break.

Jameer Nelson led Orlando with 26 points, hitting 5 of 12 three-pointers including a crucial one with 3:37 left to pull the Magic to 106-102.

Durant had a three-point play 18 seconds later to push the lead back to seven. Tobias Harris' layup got the Magic within five with 2:34 remaining, but they didn't score again.

Westbrook made his third 3-pointer of the night with 2:07 to go, Thabo Sefolosha hit a free throw, Durant made two from the line and added a layup in the final minute to close the scoring

"We made plays on both ends," Durant said of the fourth quarter. "We passed the ball and made some shots in the fourth. It was a disappointing effort in the third but I liked the way we finished."

The Thunder looked like they were going to put the game away early, shooting 71 percent in the first quarter to lead by 13. They extended the lead to 27 before the Magic pulled to 73-56 at the half.

Oklahoma City dominated the Magic in nearly every statistical category, outrebounding Orlando 52-33 - including 44-26 on the defensive end.

"Just great concentration level in the second half for us to be down 27 and cut the lead to four," Orlando coach Jacque Vaughn said. "Their two best players made two 3s, daggers that pushed the lead a little bit but overall just really good things especially in the second half."

With his team struggling to find the 20-win mark, the Magic's first-year coach acknowledged Orlando (18-48) was playing more for pride than a chance at the playoffs.

The second-half rally where Orlando outscored Oklahoma City 48-44 was a start. The Magic began cutting into the lead, outscoring the Thunder 28-22 in the third.

"We just didn't play with the focus we needed," Brooks said. "We missed too many free throws, layups and missed opportunities. Those are things we have to get better at."

Durant said the Thunder, who improved to 49-17, forgot what made them so successful in the first half.

"Guys weren't worried about shooting the ball (in the first half)," Durant said. "We were worrying about passing and finding the open shot. The second half the ball got sticky. We've got to stay disciplined throughout the whole game."

Instead of watching the game from the bench, starters Westbrook and Kendrick Perkins were forced to re-enter with 6:49 remaining followed by Durant, Sefolosha and Serge Ibaka soon after.

Harris continued to be a bright spot for the Magic since being acquired from Milwaukee. He scored 19 points in 40 minutes while largely guarding either Westbrook or Durant.

All five Orlando starters finished the game in double figures. Nikola Vucevic scored 21 points, Arron Afflalo had 10 and Maurice Harkless 12.

Ibaka scored 20 and Kevin Martin added 15 off the bench for the Thunder, who have won two in a row and 10 of their last 13.

NOTES: Oklahoma City F Hasheem Thabeet did not play due to a sore back. Rookie Perry Jones was the beneficiary of the available minutes, scoring eight points and grabbing five rebounds in 11:14 of work. ... Oklahoma had seven more turnovers than the Magic and half as many steals (6). ... Each team had 56 points in the paint. ... Harris scored in double figures in five of his 28 games with the Bucks. Since arriving in Orlando, he's scored double digits in nine of 11 games.

THE FACTS: A laugher turned nail-biter in Oklahoma City as the Thunder let a 27-point first half lead melt all the way down to just four late before surging to beat the Orlando Magic 117-104.

The Thunder had three players score in double figures and were once again led by Kevin Durant who hit a big 3-ball late and finished with 26 points, nine rebounds, three steals but also six turnovers. Russell Westbrook added 23 points, six rebounds and six assists and Serge Ibaka dropped in 20 while grabbing six rebounds and blocking three shots.

The Magic had all five starters score at least 12 points and four of the five starters played at least 40 minutes. Point guard Jameer Nelson led the way with 26 points and seven assists. Center Nic Vucevic had another double-double with 21 points and 14 rebounds and Aaron Afflalo added 20.

The Thunder appeared to be cruising toward an easy win, leading by 27 in the first half and putting 73 points on the board at the break. But in the second half OKC missed long-balls, layups and free throws and turned the ball over with careless passes. The Magic seized the opportunity but just couldn't quite close the deal at the end.

QUOTABLE: "We knew they'd play hard but our focus was inconsistent throughout the game and that's something we have to get better at. We missed a lot of free throws and a lot of layups. The bright spot about this game is that it's over with."

THE STAT: Oklahoma City scored 73 points in the first half but just 44 in the second. OKC missed 10 free throws in the second half and 14 for the game. The Thunder had 10 turnovers in the second half and 18 for the game.

TURNING POINT: A huge first half that saw OKC score a season-high 73 points and lead Orlando by 27 points buried the Magic in a hole too deep to climb out of though they were able to shave the deficit all the way down to a seat-squirming four points before the Thunder regained control with an 11-2 run to finish the game.

QUOTABLE II: "We had great concentration in the second half, their two stars hit two big threes that helped push the margin but we didn't turn the ball over and that gave us a chance."

HOT: OKC started the game shooting 63.6 percent (7-for-11)...and finished the first quarter even hotter at 71.4 percent (15-for-21) and scored a season-high 39 points in the opening quarter...Westbrook was 6-for-10 (14 points) in the first half...Oklahoma City scored 73 first half points, the most in any half this season...Ibaka was 4-for-5 and Durant was 5-for-7 in the second half.

NOT: Beno Udrih was 1-for-5 (two points) in the first half...Westbrook was 2-for-9 in the second half...Orlando shot 38 percent (19-for-50) in the last 24 minutes.

INSIDE THE ARENA: The 100th consecutive sell-out inside Chesapeake Energy Arena.

GOOD MOVE: Brooks said before the game "we just have to focus on us and what we do best," and not be distracted by Orlando's poor record. The Thunder came out smoking from the start and kept the pressure on throughout the first half scoring a season-high 73 points on 64.3 percent shooting.

BAD MOVE: The Thunder came out flat and unfocused to start the second half and allowed what had been a 27 point lead at one time in the first half shrink down to 14 with bad shot selection, blown layups and five turnovers before Brooks called a timeout midway through the third quarter to try to refocus his ball club.

BAD MOVE TOO: The Magic had hoped to slow OKC's offense by limiting their own turnovers and Orlando did that with just three in the first quarter. However, the Magic defense could not stop penetration by the Thunder inside. OKC was 9-for-11 in the paint for 18 points down low in the first quarter.

NOTABLE: The Thunder have now won 10 of their last 12 games...The Magic haven't won in Oklahoma City since November 12, 2008, the Thunder's first season in Oklahoma when they won only 23 games.
