The Miami Heat are on the cusp of the longest winning streak in franchise history, and judging by their upcoming schedule, it's not about to end just yet.

LeBron James' track record at the Target Center may be another reason the run continues.

James looks to extend his road dominance against the last-place Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday night as the Heat go for a team-record 15th straight win.

Miami (43-14) continues to pull away atop the Eastern Conference, holding sizable advantages on fellow division leaders Indiana and New York.

The Heat may be sending a message to the entire league during their surge, averaging 107.7 points and shooting 51.6 percent while reeling off 14 wins in a row to match the club mark set from Dec. 6, 2004-Jan. 1, 2005.

The run includes wins over the Pacific Division-leading Los Angeles Clippers and reigning West champion Oklahoma City. Miami overcame a 16-point deficit to beat the Knicks 99-93 on Sunday after losing the previous two meetings, each by 20 points.

The next few games don't seem to be as challenging. After visiting Minnesota (20-36), Miami hosts Orlando and Philadelphia before facing the Pacers next Sunday.

The Heat have averaged 108.6 points while winning five straight over the Timberwolves, including three visits to Minneapolis. They beat Minnesota 103-92 at home on Dec. 18.

James seems to enjoy playing at the Target Center, averaging 32.6 points on 54.8 percent shooting while winning his last seven games there - two with Miami. Overall, he has led his teams to 13 wins in a row over Minnesota.

Among the league leaders with 27.1 points per game, James scored 29 with 11 rebounds, seven assists and three steals while shaking off a knee injury to rally Miami against the Knicks for a sixth straight road win.

"His motor is limitless. I don't want to take that for granted. I don't just want to assume that he can play 40-plus minutes, but he had to do it on both ends," coach Erik Spoelstra said. "Couldn't get him out in the fourth quarter and if I would have tried, he probably would have strangled me.

"He was strong and was at his strongest after 40 minutes of basketball."

James was 12 of 23 from the field, making at least half his shots for the 21st time in his last 23 games.

Dwyane Wade is making his own impact on the Heat's winning streak, averaging 27.6 points on 61.0 percent shooting over the past five games. The All-Star guard has managed 29.4 points per game over seven career contests at Minnesota.

The Timberwolves have dropped 21 of 25 and five straight following Saturday's 109-94 defeat at Portland, and injuries continue to pile up.

Nikola Pekovic, averaging 15.9 points and 8.8 rebounds, missed the most recent game with an abdominal strain, while Kevin Love and Andrei Kirilenko are among several others still sitting out.

"It's hard when you're missing players, especially scorers like Kevin, Pek and Kirilenko," said Ricky Rubio, who is averaging 11.5 points and 10.8 assists over the past four games but shooting 30.2 percent in that stretch. "It's something we have to face every night - play the players we have and fight until the end."

Rubio missed the December meeting with the Heat. He had 12 points and 12 assists in his only previous game against Miami, which the Heat won 103-101 in Minnesota last season on a late alley-oop layup from James to Wade.

Wade, James lead Heat to record 15th straight win

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) Alonzo Mourning never did it. Shaquille O'Neal didn't, either. Even Dwyane Wade had never won 15 games in a row as a member of the Miami Heat.

The Heat have had their fair share of stars come through South Beach over the last 25 years, none of them as bright as LeBron James.

Wade had 32 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds, James shrugged off a sore left knee to score 20 points and grab 10 rebounds, and the Heat earned their franchise-record 15th straight victory with a 97-81 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday night.

"Any time you get an opportunity set a record, it's great for the organization and the guys involved," James said. "But we want to keep going. We want to keep winning each game by itself. We don't talk about the streak, we just go to the next game and play it out. We look forward to the next one."

Chris Bosh added 11 points and nine rebounds, and James played 35 minutes despite being listed as a game-time decision with a twisted left knee.

Derrick Williams had 25 points and 10 rebounds and Ricky Rubio had 14 points, eight assists, six steals and five rebounds for the Timberwolves. J.J. Barea had four points on 1-for-11 shooting and was ejected in the fourth quarter after getting a Flagrant-2 foul for a hit on Heat guard Ray Allen.

Minnesota was down six points with eight minutes to play when Barea was ejected. The Heat then went on a 17-5 run to put away the game.

Officials initially ruled it a Flagrant 1, but changed the call upon reviewing it, eliciting strong protests from Barea and Wolves coach Rick Adelman, who also picked up a technical foul. Adelman was furious after the game, alluding to an incident two weeks ago against Golden State in which Wolves center Greg Stiemsma was hit in the chest by a forearm shiver from Jarrett Jack, but was given a Flagrant-1 and allowed to keep playing.

"I just have one question I want to ask the league," Adelman said. "Why is that a Flagrant-2 foul tonight and the other night Jarrett Jack hit Stiemsma in the stomach with a forearm that that was a Flagrant 1? I would just like to know the difference. That changed the whole game."

Allen immediately got up from the foul and rushed at Barea, but players from both sides stepped in and broke up the confrontation.

"It just came out of nowhere," Allen said. "I was dribbling down the floor, it was a play where he kind of chucked me a little bit and knocked the ball away. I got it back and drove and he just leveled me. I thought it was uncalled for. There's no place for that in this game."

Barea was jawing at Allen as he left the court and said he expected the league to change the call on Tuesday.

"I've been playing in the NBA for seven years," Barea said. "I get hit harder than that every night. I don't get up crying and want to fight."

The Heat outscored Minnesota 58-32 in the paint, amassing 24 dunks or layups out of 38 total field goals.

The Heat had every reason to sit James down in this one, and the runaway favorite for MVP wouldn't have been blamed. The Heat were playing the second game of a road back-to-back, coming off a stirring victory over New York and playing an undermanned opponent that had lost 21 of its last 25 games.

Maybe in the past, James would have. But not this year. He's reached a different level, one that no one has been able to compete with, whether he is completely healthy or not. He knows more is expected of him, and he is delivering every single night.

"His leg would probably have to fall off for him to miss a game," Bosh said.

James tweaked his knee in the third quarter against New York on Sunday when he landed awkwardly while chasing down a lob pass. That didn't stop him from scoring 12 points and swatting Tyson Chandler in the fourth quarter to lead the Heat to their first win of the season over the Knicks, an important victory for the defending champions to assert themselves in the Eastern Conference.

His knee was examined once the team arrived in Minnesota and no serious damage was found. The Timberwolves had a faint glimmer of hope when James was nowhere to be found when the Heat took the floor about 15 minutes before tipoff. But he came jogging out a few minutes later, then continued his recent pregame routine of throwing down monster dunks to get that knee loosened up and ready to roll.

"My knee responded well from that fall yesterday," James said. "I'm blessed. It's nothing really, a little jam when I landed on the floor."

The dunking display kept right on going after the opening tip. Without big Nikola Pekovic (abdominal strain) roaming the paint, the Heat relentlessly attacked the rim. Their first seven field goals came on dunks or layups, as did 15 of their 20 buckets in the first half.

The Wolves made a mini-run, pulling to 76-70 before the Barea-Allen confrontation, and the Heat pulled away after that.

It's not as if the Heat have been feasting on cupcakes during their record streak. They've taken down the Clippers, Lakers, Rockets, Thunder, Bulls, Grizzlies and Knicks, almost all of them in convincing fashion.

The message is being delivered. This is their time. This is LeBron's league.

THE FACTS: The Miami Heat set a franchise record with their 15th consecutive victory, defeating a depleted Minnesota Timberwolves team, 97-81, on Monday night. A night after landing awkwardly and tweaking his knee, LeBron James played and played well, but it was Dwyane Wade for whom Minnesota had no answer. He scored 32 points, got 10 assists, and grabbed seven rebounds. Minnesota only had nine players available for the game and they were missing their entire starting frontcourt (Kevin Love, Andrei Kirilenko, and Nikola Pekovic). In their absence Derrick Williams led the Wolves with 25 points and 10 rebounds and Ricky Rubio continued his strong all-around play with 14 points, eight assists, five rebounds, and six steals.

While Miami maintained a comfortable lead for most of the game, Minnesota kept making enough runs to keep the game from getting out of hand. After leading by 11 in the second quarter, Minnesota closed the gap to four. And after trailing by 14 in the third quarter, Minnesota went on a 14-4 run to close the third and open the fourth quarter and got within three, 71-68. Yet Miami had the final answer. Leading by six and with a little over eight minutes to play, they capitalized on a flurry of calls that left the Wolves reeling. Miami turned up the pressure and the result was a 16-5 run that secured the victory for Miami.

QUOTABLE: "We always ask the league. They will probably say that they blew it. That's probably what is going to happen. At least come over and explain it. He (lead official, Ed Malloy) just came over and said 'you're gone.' There is no explanation. Nothing. It was a really contested game and it did change the whole momentum of the game. That's what happened. But, again, we didn't shoot the ball well. We shot 37 percent, 25 percent from 3 and 66 percent from the line against the world champions. That's probably not going to do it."

THE STAT: Miami took advantage of Minnesota's frontcourt injuries, outscoring Minnesota in the paint 58-32. Miami also shot 51.4 percent from the field compared to Minnesota's 37.5 percent. And Miami outrebounded Minnesota 53-46 -- a far cry from Minnesota's 52-24 rebounding advantage in their first game of the season.

TURNING POINT: The string of fouls called by the officials starting with the ejection of Barea with 8:09 in the fourth quarter sparked a 16-5 run that gave Miami an 18 point lead with less than three minutes to play..

QUOTABLE II: "Tonight was just about finding some way to win, however we had to do it. It was an uneven game, obviously. [We were] very careless offensively, but at the end of the day we found a way to get the win."

HOT (as in, hot headed): Ray Allen and Barea had a shoving match and had to be separated early in the fourth quarter.

NOT (as in, not popular with the Target Center crowd): The result of the dust-up between Barea and Allen was, inexplicably, a flagrant 2 foul called on Barea. And in the next minute a technical foul was called on Adelman and back-to-back offensive fouls were called on Minnesota.

NOTABLE: Miami has won the last five (six) games against Minnesota .. Their last loss came on February 1 (102-89 to Indiana) .. Miami ranks first in the league in field goal percentage (.496) and second in the league in 3-point percentage (.393) ..
