The Denver Nuggets are one of the highest scoring teams in the NBA, and their bench is a big reason they seem headed for a 10th straight trip to the playoffs.

Playing at home is also a big help.

The Nuggets look for another strong effort from the bench Monday night, when they go for their longest single-season home winning streak in eight years against the Atlanta Hawks.

Denver (38-22) ranks third in the NBA with 105.5 points per game, and the bench contributes regularly - also ranking third with an average of 39.9 points. That's been key to the Nuggets entering this contest fifth in the Western Conference, eight games clear of the postseason cutoff.

They've strengthened their position with a four-game winning streak during which they've averaged 112.0 points - 46.5 coming from their reserves.

While starting guard Ty Lawson hit the decisive jumper with 0.2 seconds left to clinch Friday's 105-103 win over Northwest Division-leading Oklahoma City, Wilson Chandler sparked the charge by Denver's reserves, scoring a career high-tying 35 points as they outscored Oklahoma City's bench counterparts 71-11.

"Honestly, I thought I'd have a pretty good night but 35? No," said Chandler, who averages 11.3 points and scored 30 combined in the two previous games starting in place of the injured Danilo Gallinari. "I was playing in my rhythm and taking open shots."

Denver's 10-game home win streak is its longest in a single season at home since reeling off 12 in a row from March 16-April 19, 2005.

Gallinari leads the way with a career-high 16.7 points per game, but he's looking for improvement after making just 2 of 7 from the floor to finish with seven on Friday in his return from a thigh bruise.

Lawson made 5 of 14 from the floor, totaling 11 points after averaging 26.1 over the previous eight contests.

He scored a season-high 32 while connecting on 12 of 16 from the floor, including all five from long range, while adding seven assists and five steals in a 108-104 loss at Atlanta (33-25) on Dec. 5.

A change of venue should benefit Denver, which needs a victory to match Miami's league-leading 26-3 home record.

The Nuggets have won five straight at home versus the Hawks, averaging 111.8 points while connecting on 40.9 percent of their attempts from behind the arc.

Atlanta enters this visit trying to finish this six-game trip above .500. The team has dropped the last two games, with the most recent coming in dramatic fashion Sunday, when Kobe Bryant scored the decisive basket on a driving layup past Josh Smith with 9 seconds left, sending the Hawks to a 99-98 defeat to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Smith finished with 19 points, seven assists, seven rebounds and three blocks against the Lakers, but committed three turnovers - one coming with 2 seconds to play. Still, the performance was an improvement after he shot 2 for 11 and finished with five points in Friday's 92-87 loss at Phoenix.

Smith's 33 points were wasted in the most recent visit to Denver on March 13, when the Hawks fell 118-117 in overtime.

Al Horford missed that meeting with an ankle injury, but he had 25 points with 12 rebounds against the Nuggets in December. He's averaging 25.1 points and 11.1 boards over the past eight games.

Nuggets beat short-handed Hawks 104-88

DENVER (AP) Denver's bench is giving the Nuggets' starting five a push for playing time. At this rate, the reserves might be just as good as the starters.

This time, it was Corey Brewer scoring 22 points and being, as his coach said, "a pest defensively," and Wilson Chandler chipping in 13 points in the Nuggets' 104-88 win over the depleted Atlanta Hawks on Monday night.

Starter Ty Lawson had 18 points and Kenneth Faried had another double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds, but it was Denver's bench - which outscored Oklahoma City's reserves by 60 points in their last game - that provided the effort and energy that helped the Nuggets finally shake the Hawks.

Behind their reserves' 50-point night, the Nuggets won their 11th straight game at the Pepsi Center and matched Miami's NBA-best 26-3 home record.

"It's the energy, the altitude, but we're also jelling as a team," Brewer said. "We're starting to play together and we know each other a little bit."

With Chandler and Brewer providing the scoring off the bench, JaVale McGee chipped in some more amazing dunks to go with five electrifying blocked shots and Andre Miller dished out nine assists.

"It's been great," Chandler said. "We've got a chemistry going. We're pretty much going in at the same time, we just go out there and play hard. Andre and JaVale hook up for a few lobs and JaVale's on the boards blocking. Andre's orchestrating the whole deal and Corey's running around on defense, fast breaks."

The crowd feeds off Denver's bench players and "they're probably one of the forces that helps us win most of our games at home," Lawson said.

At .896, the Nuggets are in position to post their best home winning percentage in franchise history. They went 36-5 for an .878 home winning percentage in 1976-77, their first season in the NBA.

"Well, that's reachable," Nuggets coach George Karl said.

For most of three quarters, however, the latest home blowout wasn't the cakewalk many in the crowd expected against a banged-up, tired team playing the final game of a six-game trip.

Eventually, the Hawks ran out of gas and bodies, though.

Al Horford scored 18 points for Atlanta, and Josh Smith chipped in 15 points, becoming the 24th player in league history to collect 10,000 points, 5,000 rebounds, 2,000 assists and 1,000 blocks. His milestone came on a night when many of his teammates were spectators as the Hawks were without Kyle Korver (toe), Zaza Pachulia (sore right Achilles) and DeShawn Stevenson, who skipped the second game of this back-to-back like he normally does because of balky knees.

Then, Jeff Teague (15 points) sprained his left ankle in the first quarter and Ivan Johnson dislocated his left middle finger in the second quarter. Both returned.

Horford's jumper pulled the Hawks to 63-61 before Lawson hit two free throws and a 26-foot 3-pointer followed by Chandler's bucket that made it 70-61 and forced a timeout in the third quarter.

"We didn't have all the guys who impact the game so much," Smith said. "In the fourth quarter, they were able to string some makes together. They're a fast-breaking team and as soon as a shot's missed it seems like there are already two guys already back for a layup."

Fatigue finally kicked in during the fourth quarter when three straight baskets by Brewer capped a 10-2 run Denver used to build a 96-79 lead.

"I wish it would have kicked in a little earlier, but it did kick in and that was good," Karl said. "They've been on a long trip. And the third quarter, we looked like we were going to break it open a little bit and they would always cut back into us and finally the last five minutes we got away from them."

The Hawks won the first three games of the trip but lost the last three.

"Tired both physically and mentally," Hawks coach Larry Drew lamented. "It's been a long road trip. Fatigue does factor into at this point."

That was most evident on the fastbreak, where the Nuggets outscored the Hawks 29-13.

"It was a tough," Horford said, "but I was proud of the guys who dressed up and played. It's a long season, you deal with injuries, and guys came out and fought. We hung around, but it was very overwhelming. They were good in the fast break."

Notes: Drew said Korver strained his right big toe in Atlanta's 99-98 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday. He stayed in the game, but soreness set in afterward. ... Anthony Tolliver started for Stevenson and Dahntay Jones started for Korver, who leads the NBA with a .462 shooting percentage on 3-pointers. ... The Nuggets have won eight of their last nine home games against Atlanta, including the last six.

THE FACTS: Corey Brewer scored 22 points, Ty Lawson had 18 points and eight assists and the Denver Nuggets pulled away in the fourth quarter to beat the Atlanta Hawks 104-88 on Monday night.

Kenneth Faried had 10 points and 13 rebounds for Denver (39-22), which won its 11th straight at home and improved to 26-3 at Pepsi Center. The Nuggets tied the Miami Heat for the best home record in the NBA. The Nuggets have won five straight overall. Al Horford led the Hawks with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Atlanta, which started this six-game road trip with three straight wins, finished 3-3.

THE STAT: Josh Smith's bucket late in the first half gave him 10,000 points for his career. He is the 24th player in NBA history -- and sixth active player -- with 10,000 points, 5,000 rebounds, 2,000 assists and 1,000 blocked shots. He is the ninth player to do it with one team. He was presented with a game ball after he came out of the game. He finished with 15 points.

TURNING POINT: The Nuggets defense in the fourth quarter. After committing seven turnovers themselves in the third, they forced seven by Atlanta in the fourth, which led to 12 points. Brewer heated up, scoring 10 of his points in the period including eight in a decisive run at the start that turned an eight-point lead into a 17.

QUOTABLE II: "It's a blessing to get that mark. Just got to keep working hard and hopefully I can accomplish more things in this league."

HOT: JaVale McGee got the crowd into it with his athleticism in the first half. He had two put-back dunks, blocked Anthony Tolliver's 3-point shot into the crowd, got a rebound and then slammed home a long lob pass from Andre Miller to help the Nuggets take a 16-point lead. McGee finished with nine points and five blocks.

NOT: The Hawks' training room was more populated than their bench. Kyle Korver (sprained right big toe), Zaza Pachulia (sore right achilles) didn't dress and DeShawn Stevenson didn't play to rest his sore knees. Then, in the first half, Jeff Teague turned his left ankle and Ivan Johnson dislocated the middle finger on his left hand. Both players returned to the game.

GOOD MOVE: Atlanta was tired but it didn't seem to zap the team's defensive energy in the third quarter. The Hawks forced seven turnovers and for most of the period slowed down Denver's fast break, which had worked well in the first half. They couldn't sustain it in the fourth.

QUOTABLE IV: "I saw guys, they were fatigued. I didn't want to put a lot of minutes on a lot of guys particularly after we played last night. Coming into a building like this, you can't play tired. You've got to make sure you have fresh guys."

ROOKIE WATCH: With the Hawks shorthanded, guard John Jenkins got more playing time and responded with 12 points.

NOTABLE: Lawson was named the Western Conference player of the week after averaging 21 points, 11.7 assists and seven rebounds in three games. ... Denver's 11 straight home wins is its longest since winning 12 in a row from March 16-Aprl 19, 2005. ... Atlanta was 4-for-6 from 3-point range in the first quarter and 3-for-18 from long range the rest of the game. ... The Nuggets had 30 assists and are 9-0 when reaching that number.
