Luis Scola,
Houston Rockets

A ripe rookie, Luis Scola had plenty of professional basketball experience before coming to the NBA this season. Playing pro for years overseas, the San Antonio Spurs drafted Scola in 2002 with the 56th overall pick. However the Argentina native did not lace 'em up for an NBA team until the 2007-08 season after the Spurs traded his rights to the Rockets. While it took some time for the 27-year-old to adjust to them NBA, he is now logging double-digits in scoring night in and night out. Also, with teammate Yao Ming sidelined Scola has become a key post player for the Rockets. As he appears to improve with each game he plays, Scola will be a force to reckon with in the years to come. Currently, the 6-9 forward is averaging 9.9 points and 6.1 rebounds but as he continues to build his confidence and gain knowledge on the league, those numbers should quickly rise.
Peja Stojakovic,
New Orleans Hornets

Although a player's role may change when they move to a new team, their talent remains. Currently in his tenth season in the league, Peja is now a number three option in New Orleans as oppose to the number two option which he was during his playing days in Sacramento. In his role with the Hornets, the Serbia-native is having his best season from three-point land as he is hitting .456 of his shots from beyond the arc. The three-time All-Star has put up solid numbers regardless of where he plays and what role he serves as he has compiled career averages of 18.2 points and 5.0 rebounds throughout his NBA career. As his New Orleans' squad currently owns the first seed in the tight Western Conference, the 14th overall pick of the 1996 draft is still going strong in the Big Easy.
Dikembe Mutombo,
Houston Rockets

While some wonder if Dikembe Mutombo's storybook career will soon be ending, many have already begun to celebrate the 17-year vet's impressive career. Born in Kinshasa of the Democratic Republic of Congo, the 41-year-old center spent his college years at Georgetown before Denver drafted the 7-2 Hoya with their fourth overall pick in the 1991 NBA Draft. Over they years Deke has played for numerous NBA teams including the Nuggets, Hawks, 76ers, Nets and his current Rockets team. He has been recognized by the league on multiple occasions as he is an eight-time All-Star. He has been on six All –Defensive Teams, three All-NBA Teams and has been the Defensive Player of the Year four times. Whether he calls it quits today, tomorrow or years from now, Deke will always be a part of the game as a piece of NBA history.

Axel Hervelle, F
Country: Belgium
Team: Real Madrid
NBA Affiliation: Denver Nuggets
Key Stats: 9.3 ppg, 6.2 rpg

Chosen by Denver in the 2005 NBA Draft with their 52nd overall pick, Axel Hervelle could end up being a winner or a waste for the Nuggets. At just 24-years-old, this Belgium-born athlete has a physique as good as any current NBA player. At 6-9 230 pounds, Hervelle is strong, has broad shoulders and a good wingspan. Athletic as they come, Hervelle is very physical and quick. Also his intensity is second to none as he possesses an all or nothing attitude. While he sounds like an ideal player, he still needs to develop his shot and improve his low post play. His offensive woes prevent him from bringing his game to the next level. With hard work and dedication he has the ability to improve the areas of his game that are holding him back. As a current member of Real Madrid, Hervelle is averaging 9.3 points and 6.2 rebounds. If the 24-year-old can further develop his offensive game while in Spain, Denver just might come calling before next season begins.

Edin Bavcic, F
Country: Bosnia
Team: KK Bosnia
NBA Affiliation: Philadelphia 76ers
Key Stats: 9.2 ppg, 4.3 rpg

The expectations for Edin Bavcic are high. The Raptors used their 56th overall pick in the 2006 NBA Draft on Bavcic but they quickly sent him to the 76ers in return for cash. Despite falling to the second round of the draft, the Sixers' European Scouting Coordinator Danko Cvjeticanin believes he will make an impact on Philadelphia's squad. Cvjeticanin told Sixers.com. " He’s 6-feet-10, he’s a great sized forward, power forward, who can shoot the ball and can run the floor very, very well. He has good muscle definition, and because of that I see a better transition to the NBA game. I really think that down the road, in one or two years, he will be ready for the NBA game." While he has solid shooting skills, he is still developing his post game. The Bosnia-born athlete is currently honing his skills on the team KK Bosnia. He is averaging 9.2 points and 4.3 rebounds. At 23 years-old, Bavcic is still young and only time will tell if Cvjeticann's prediction will come true.

Sun Yue, G/F
Country: China
Team: Beijing Aoshen
NBA Affiliation: Los Angeles Lakers
Key Stats: N/A

Yi, Yao and now Sun Yue? The Lakers chose Sun with their 40th overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft and for good reason. The China native can dribble with the best of them and has eyes in the back of his head when it comes to finding the open man. At 6-9, 212 pounds with a diverse skill set, Sun can play at the 1, 2 or the 3 spot. At just 22 years-old, Sun plays with a maturity beyond his years as he appears at ease when the ball is in his hands. On the defensive end of the floor, Sun rebounds well, can obstruct passing lanes and occasionally blocks shots. Sun's biggest hurdle is cleaning up his shot. He is inconsistent and has a slow release along with poor mechanics. In an attempt to become NBA ready, Sun is currently playing in the ABA on the Beijing Aoshen squad. If this budding star can develop his jumper, he will be the complete package and a stat sheet stuffer for the Lakers in the years to come.

Roko Leni Ukic , PG
Country: Croatia
Team: Lottomatica Roma
NBA Affiliation: Toronto Raptors
Key Stats: 12.7 ppg, 2.8 apg

Rumor has it that Roko Leni Ukic will join the Toronto Raptors, who drafted him with their 41st overall pick in the 2005 NBA Draft, next season. Currently the 6-5 point guard sports a Lottomatica Roma uniform, where as a starter he is averaging 12.7 points, 2.4 rebounds and 2.8 dimes. Ukic's solid ball handling skills coupled with his playmaking abilities, makes the 23-year old Croatia native one of the most celebrated point guards outside the NBA. Although Ukic's often lacks intensity on the defensive end when he so chooses to turn it on he is a more than capable defender. With a quick first step, good size and great athleticism, Ukic will be a solid addition to the Raptors squad if the word on the street turns out to be true.
