Chicago Bulls Team Overview

2011-12 record: 50-16

First place, Central Division

Lost in first round to Philadelphia

DRAFT PICKS:

Round: 1

Areas of Strength:
A month or so ago, you'd have said the Bulls were loaded and championship-worthy. Then Derrick Rose's ACL went kablooey! Now their 2012-13 plans are getting adjusted downward and ambitions beyond that are in flux. The frontline remains a real strength and, in time, Rose should have Chicago covered well at point guard.

Needs Work:
Wing scoring remains the top priority. Richard Hamilton proved too brittle to help enough in that role and, by the time Rose is fully recovered, Hamilton could be gone or past the point of serious contributions. Power forward Carlos Boozer is on the downside, too, putting him out of sync with a Rose-led title run.

Two Stats That Matter:
98
-- Games lost to injuries by various Bulls players in the 66-game season. The year before, in the 82-game schedule, the injury number was just 61.

4 -- The number of years Chicago likely will have to wait for a primo draft pick. The first-rounder it got from Charlotte in the Tyrus Thomas trade a few years ago is protected at least through top eight through 2015.

The Way To Go:
It's unlikely Chicago will get help at No. 29 along the lines of a Manu Ginobili or Tony Parker. If Bulls GM Gar Forman can't package the pick as part of a deal for a shooting guard or a quality temp to handle Rose's spot while he's rehabbing, this will be a Jimmy Butler type pick for depth. But hey, Butler is expected to make Ronnie Brewer expendable this offseason.
