Cleveland Wheelchair Cavaliers Open Up Season with Double-Header Sweep
CLEVELAND, OH - The Cleveland Wheelchair Cavaliers opened up the 2012-2013 season on Saturday, November 17th hosting the Pittsburgh Steelwheelers in a doubleheader at the Brook Park Recreation Center. The Cavaliers took game one by a score of 48 - 47. It was a tightly contested game, with both teams exchanging the lead through out the first half. The Cavaliers lead at the end of the first half by three, and extended the lead to ten early in the second half. However, Pittsburgh fought back and had the ball down one with 20 seconds left in the game. The Cavaliers came through with strong defense when it was needed and came away with the win. Will Waller lead the Cavaliers in scoring with 34 and Steve Smutak chipped in 8.
In game two, the Cavaliers found the basket early and often taking a commanding 11 point lead at the half. The Cavaliers maintained the lead throughout the remainder of the game and received contributions from the entire team to win game 2 by a score of 55 - 47. Once again, Will Waller lead the Cavaliers in scoring with 32 followed by Steve Smutak with 14.
The Cleveland Wheelchair Cavaliers return to action Saturday December 1st at 12:00 p.m. playing the Moraine Minutemen, from Dayton, at Willets Middle School in Brunswick.
