The MACC Fund started during a Milwaukee Bucks game in 1976 when Jon McGlocklin’s Bucks jersey number was retired. McGlocklin co-founded the MACC Fund with Bucks broadcaster Eddie Doucette shortly after Doucette’s young son Brett was diagnosed with leukemia. Brett, the MACC Fund’s first “success story,” is married and lives in California. The Bucks were the first major sponsor of the MACC Fund.

Proceeds of the Bucks MACC Fund Game – which total in excess of $1.3 million since 1977 -support research at the Medical College of Wisconsin in the MACC Fund Research Center, in the MACC Fund Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin and at the University of Wisconsin’s Carbone Cancer Center in the MACC Fund Childhood Cancer Research Wing of the Wisconsin Interdisciplinary Medical Research Center and in the MACC Fund Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin.

Since its inception, the MACC Fund has contributed $42 million for pediatric cancer and blood disorder research for diseases like aplastic anemia and sickle cell. The overall cure rate for childhood cancer has risen from 20% to 80% during this time with the MACC Fund’s support playing an important role in that progress.
